SFA Basketball Signee News (7/23/08) SFA signee to play in THSCA High School All-Star Game SFA men's basketball signee, Zachary Williams, a 6'4" guard from Dallas Skyline High School has been selected to play on the North Squad in the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) basketball game. The game which features all-star players from all classifications of high school basketball is a highlight of the annual THSCA coaches association meeting. Congratulations to Zach. (5/8/08) Ladyjacks Sign Point fifth recruit for Class of 2008 The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team signed 5'4" point guard Courtney Conwright of Mansfield Timberview to a National Letter of Intent. Courtney's signing gives the Ladyjacks five players in the current recruiting class three of which who can come in and handle the basketball at the point guard position. A former district newcomer of the year, Courtney averaged 13.3 points, and 2.1 steals per game on her way to first-team all-district honors. She was the district's second leading scorer, and second in the district in three-pointers, during her junior season, while guiding Timberview to a 31-5 (.861) overall record. During her career, Courtney was twice named Dallas Morning News Player of the Week, and entered her junior season among the publication's players to watch list. She finished her sophomore campaign third in the district in scoring and three-point shots. Courtney's accomplishments included invitations to compete in the Addidas Top 10 Underclassmen Camp and the Texas A&M All-Star camp as well as garnering recognition on the District 4-5A All-Academic team. A four-year letterwinner at Timberview, Courtney guided the Texas Express to back-to-back-to-back AAU national titles from 2002 - 2004. She joins point guard Cambria Smith of North Mesquite High School, guard 5'6" guard Tammara Marion of Houston Bellaire High School, 6'0" guard/forward Schera Sampson of Round Rock McNeil High School and 6'2 post Amina Sawyer of Pflugerville High School in signing with the Ladyjacks. (4/25/2008) Ladyjacks Ink Standout Point Guard Cambria Smith The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team filled a huge need with
the signing of prep point guard Cambria Smith of North Mesquite High
School. Cambria was a three-time first-team all-district selection and
led the Dallas-Fort Worth area in assists the past two seasons. She was
named 2008 district MVP while averaging 8.3 points, and 6.1 assists per
game and was selected as a North Texas Basketball Coaches' all-star, and
an alternate on the TGCA all-star team. Cambria also excels in the
classroom earning first-team Academic All-District selection for three
years. Cambria joins 5'6" guard Tammara Marion (Houston Bellaire High

(4/16/08) Lumberjacks gain commitment from another guard On National Signing Day, Stephen F. Austin men's basketball coach Danny Kaspar gained his second commitment for the spring in Jarrod McDaniel, a 5'8" point guard from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. McDaniel played his prep ball at Midwest City High School (OK). Jarrod joins point guard Girod Adams from Cloud Community College in Kansas as players who have announced their intentions of signing with the Lumberjacks this spring. Congratulations to Coach Kaspar and his staff. (4/8/08) Lumberjack Men's Basketball adds spring commitment The Stephen F. Austin men's basketball program added another commitment for their 2008 signing class with announcement that Girod Adams, a 5'10" point guard from Cloud Community College in Kansas will sign with the Lumberjacks. Cloud is a Kansas native who played his high school basketball at West High School in Topeka, Kansas. Congratulations to Coach Kaspar and his staff. (11/21/07) Lumberjack Men's Basketball adds three in early signing period The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team added three solid replacements in a talent-laden early signing class. Lumberjack head coach Danny Kaspar announced the signing of Lu Griffin, South Plains College, Walt Harris, McLennan Community College, and Zach Williams, Dallas Skyline, to national letters of intent. Williams is the highest-rated high school signee in Coach Kaspar's eight-year tenure. Lu Griffin, 6'5", power forward, Greenville High School, Greenville, S.C./South Plains College: Griffin averaged 5.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a freshman at South Plains, showing spurts of explosiveness with 18 points against Pima College and 19 rebounds against New Mexico Junior College. Griffin helped lead the Texans to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship last season. The team went on to reach the Region V championship game before losing to eventual national champion Midland College. This season, South Plains is off to a 7-0 start, and Griffin has already recorded a 14-rebound game against San Jacinto Junior College. As a high school senior, Griffin averaged 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots for Greenville High. He led the squad to a 26-3 record that season. Walt Harris, 6'5", guard, Harker Heights High School, Killeen, Zach Williams, 6'4", shooting guard/small forward, Skyline High School, Dallas, Texas: Williams is the most highly touted high school player ever signed by Coach Kaspar. Mike Kunstadt's Texas Hoops has Williams ranked among the state's top 15 players this year. The Dallas Skyline senior averaged 12 points per game with six rebounds and two assists as a junior as he earned first-team all-district selection. Congratulations to Coach Kaspar and his staff. (11/15/2007) Ladyjack Basketball inks three during early signing period The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team added three Texas high school standouts to its roster on the first day of the early signing period. Joining the Ladyjacks are Tammara Marion (Houston, Texas), Schera Sampson (Round Rock, Texas) and Amina Sawyer (Pflugerville, Texas). Tammara Marion, 5'6", guard, Bellaire High School: a 2007 first-team all-district selection, Marion averaged 15.6 points, 3.6 assists, 2.8 steals and 2.2 reboundper game as a junior where she earned all-region and all state honors, as well as All-District and being named to several all-tournament teams. Tammara can play either guard position. Schera Sampson, 6'0", guard/forward, Round Rock McNeil High School: a three-time first-team all-district selection, Schera has increased her production in each of the past two seasons. A former district newcomer of the year, Schera averaged 12.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game during her junior season. In addition to her success on the court, Schera was an academic all-district selection as a freshman and recorded a 4.0 grade-point average (5.0 scale) or better all three seasons. Amina Sawyer, 6'2", post player, Pflugerville High School: a two-time all-district selection, Amina helped guide Pflugerville to a 61-11 (.847) overall record over the past two seasons where Pflugerville earned consecutive district titles. This past season, Sawyer averaged 7.6 points and 6.1 rebounds while helping guide her high school to a 33-4 (.892) overall record and a No. 19 TGCA ranking.
